FibNodesTM frequently asked questions.
What will FibNodes do for me? FibNodes creates Fibonacci Expansion and Retracement points in a manner consistent with Joe DiNapoli's trading techniques as described in "Trading with DiNapoli levels" and the various trading courses that Coast Investment Software offers. These (leading indicator) points are extremely useful to the trader as points of entry, stop placement, and profit objectives. They can be used in any time frame. How do I use FibNodes? You create a Fibonacci series or File by inputting a series of data points from a chart which is called up on his charting software. A given file may contain 2 to 15 data points but four or five is most common. The program performs calculations and presents both a numerical and graphics display which shows support and resistance areas along with the appropriate Lineage. The program then saves this file for later retrieval and use. What's the difference between the integrated and non integrated versions of FibNodes? Both versions are identical except that the integrated version of the software has the ability to automatically updated the Focus number in the files that you create. The focus number (and therefore all of the FibNodes calculations!) are updated by tick data from TradeStation, or DBC Signal or BMI. If you are using the non integrated version you will, when necessary, have to manually insert a new Focus number to keep the file current. The focus number is the most recent extreme high or low that all the Fibonacci calculations are based on. A comment on this from Joe DiNapoli: For over 13 years I traded using our old DOS non integrated FibNodes software. This was done on a variety of instruments including 5 minute S&P's where the action was fast and furious. Compared with the current FibNodes software we offer today it was crude to say the least. Still it was the best tool available for the job --uniquely suited to the exact methodology I developed. If you do not have the ability to use the integrated version of FibNodes (or you're not on CQG), you're still way better off to use the non-integrated version than anything else available out there--It essentially forces you into doing things "right". I still use the non-integrated version for most of my equity and cash instrument trading. Is it a lot of work to keep the non integrated FibNode files updated? There is some work involved, but it is not excessive. In fact Joe DiNapoli actively day traded the S&P 5 minute chart for 12 years using an older form of the non-integrated FibNodes software. My charting software already does Fibonacci retracement. Why do I need FibNodes? Your charting software also does BASIC Fibonacci retracements but that is not adequate to most accurately and efficiently apply the concepts. Also, common software packages DO NOT UPDATE AUTOMATICALLY, so as new price data is displayed, you must manually update all of the Fibonacci displays. The tool does not fit the task. View this comparison of FibNodes and popular charting packages. What about using a spreadsheet to do the calculations? While this is a possibility, spreadsheets do not provide the most accurate and efficient means to efficiently apply the concepts. In this regard one of our clients has been working on an advanced spread sheet application for 4 years. He uses FibNodes to trade with. Given the cost of FibNodes this is a case of being penny wise and pound-foolish. We have done the work of properly implementing this process for you. What charting software is the FibNodes program compatible with? The non integrated version is compatible with all graphics software since the user is responsible for inputting the data points. The integrated version is currently integrated to TradeStation 2000, real-time tick data is obtained directly from TradeStation 2000 regardless of data source. In addition, FibNodes is compatible with with any charting software that uses the DBC Signal or BMI data manager, in which case FibNodes will receive real-time tick data directly from the DBC data manager, not from your charting software. The DBC Signal or BMI data manager is software which is used to provide quotes over the Internet or FM/Cable and satellite, we are compatible with all of those. Will the integrated version eventually become compatible with more software or data feeds? The integrated version of FibNodes will be available for certain popular charting programs on a "pass through" basis, just as we do from TradeStation 2000. This means that FibNodes will gain information from the charting software itself rather than from the data feed. Charting programs that will lend themselves to this process are expected to be MetaStock, Future Source, and possibly Ensign, and Windows on Wall Street. We will list the availability of future integration on our web pages as they are available. Should I buy the integrated version now or wait for integration with my charting software. This is really up to you, and how important FibNodes is to your trading. If you required real-time integration at this time, you could switch to DBC as your data vendor, as we are integrated to them now. The upgrade price is $100 for the integrated version, so the expense is the same weather you buy the integrated version now for $495, or the non integrated version for $395 and upgrade later. What you would gain is having the software available now and not need to go through any ordering or downloading issues. You would also be protected from possible price changes.
